Fit to Print: WebP and large images are no longer a problem

The Fit to Print tool no longer rejects WebP files or very large reference images. It now converts them to a suitable format and size automatically.

In the Fit to Print tool, some reference images were being rejected with the warning "Each image must be PNG, JPG or WebP and at most 20 megapixels", and some jobs could not be completed.

The fix

  • Format conversion: WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF and HEIC images are converted to PNG or JPEG automatically. Images with transparency stay PNG.
  • Size adjustment: images larger than 20 megapixels are scaled down with their aspect ratio kept, and very large files are compressed step by step.
  • Prepared in your browser: the image is resized in your browser before it is uploaded.
  • Only a file that cannot be opened at all is rejected.

As always, credits spent on jobs that could not be completed are refunded.
