Selling on Etsy from Turkey: opening an account and getting paid
How does an Etsy shop opened from Turkey get paid, why isn't PayPal available, and where do Payoneer and Wise fit in? Based on Etsy's official help pages, we lay out the account, payout and fee picture.
The most common question from people who want to sell on Etsy from Turkey isn't about products, it's about money: how does the money an American buyer pays reach me? The answer has changed over the past few years. PayPal doesn't operate in Turkey, and Etsy pays sellers in Turkey through its own payment system, Etsy Payments.

Etsy Payments is available in Turkey
Turkey is on Etsy's list of "countries eligible for Etsy Payments". The buyer pays by credit card, Etsy gift card and the other methods Etsy offers; the money goes to your payment account through Etsy Payments and from there to your bank account.
The critical rule here: the bank country you choose when opening the shop becomes your shop's country, and Etsy requires you to use a bank account in the country your shop is registered in. Except for moves within the eurozone, the bank account country can't be changed later. So a shop opened from Turkey needs a bank account in Turkey.
According to Etsy's supported currencies page, payouts are deposited in the currency of the country where your bank account is located. For an account in Turkey, that is the Turkish lira.
Where do Payoneer and Wise fit in?
Payoneer: Etsy says sellers in certain countries, marked with an asterisk on the eligible countries list, can use Etsy Payments with a Payoneer payout account. Turkey is listed without an asterisk, which means the path Etsy sets out for sellers in Turkey is a bank account in Turkey, not Payoneer. Payoneer offers a separate service on its own site for receiving payouts from other marketplaces such as Amazon; eligibility varies by country.
Wise: Wise's help page explains how to enter Wise account details as your bank information on Etsy. But Etsy's rule doesn't change: the bank account must be in the shop's country. Entering account details from another country for a shop opened from Turkey runs into that rule. Before deciding, check which accounts are accepted on Etsy's payment settings screen.
Fees for sellers in Turkey
On top of Etsy's general fees, there are country-specific items for sellers using a bank account in Turkey. As of September 2026, these are the figures listed on Etsy's help pages:

A word on the last row: for Turkey, Etsy defines a minimum withdrawal amount, a fee threshold and a withdrawal fee. If your withdrawal is above the minimum but below the fee threshold, the withdrawal fee applies. Waiting for your balance to pass the threshold, rather than withdrawing small amounts often, avoids that fee.
If you open your shop in US dollars and get paid in Turkish lira, the currency conversion fee applies. Etsy publishes fixed fees (such as the listing fee) in dollars and converts them to your payment account's currency at the current market rate. Who collects US sales tax?
State sales tax is a common question when selling to buyers in the US. According to Etsy's help page, under marketplace facilitator laws, Etsy calculates, collects from the buyer and remits sales tax on behalf of sellers anywhere in the world for orders shipped to states where those laws apply. You don't need to configure anything in your shop for those states; Etsy charges no extra fee for this, and sellers can't opt out.
Your income tax obligations in Turkey are a separate matter and vary from person to person. Once you start selling regularly, it makes sense to work with an accountant.
What to have ready when opening your shop
- Your ID details: Etsy asks for identity verification when you open a shop.
- Your bank account in Turkey: it must be in the same country as the shop; the country can't be changed later.
- Your shop currency decision: US dollars or Turkish lira? This choice determines the currency conversion fee.
- Setup fee: Etsy charges some shops a one-time, non-refundable setup fee; the amount varies by location and, if it applies, is shown during setup.
- Production partner disclosure if you use POD: Etsy asks sellers who work with a production partner to disclose this transparently on the relevant listings.
Money flow: in from Etsy, out to the producer
When you sell with POD, there are two separate money flows. The first is your sales revenue from Etsy: the buyer pays on Etsy, Etsy deducts its fees, and the rest is deposited into your bank account in Turkey in Turkish lira. The second is the product cost you pay to the producer.
