Etsy fees in 2026: what do you actually keep from a sale?
When you sell a $25 t-shirt on Etsy, $25 doesn't land in your account. We break down the listing, transaction, payment processing, advertising and Turkey-specific fees one by one, with a real example.

The most common pricing mistake on Etsy is looking only at product cost and ignoring Etsy's fees. Etsy's fee structure has several layers, and some of them are charged not only on the item price but also on the shipping you charge the customer. If you sell with a bank account in Turkey, additional items come into play.
The rates in this article come from Etsy's official help pages and are current as of September 2026. Etsy updates its fees from time to time, so check the line items in your own payment account before you set prices.
Etsy's core fees
Listing fee: $0.20
Every listing you publish costs $0.20, whether it sells or not. A listing stays active for 4 months; if auto-renew is on, each renewal, whether on expiry or after a sale, costs another $0.20. When more than one unit sells from the same listing, each additional unit also incurs a $0.20 listing fee.
Transaction fee: 6.5%
When an item sells, 6.5% of the order total is charged. The key point: the transaction fee applies not just to the item price but also to the shipping and gift wrap you charge the customer.
Payment processing fee
Every sale through Etsy Payments carries a payment processing fee that depends on the country of your bank account. It is calculated on the total amount, including item price, shipping and any sales tax.

Regulatory operating fee (Turkey: 1.67%)
Etsy charges sellers in some countries an extra fee to cover the cost of local regulations. As of September 2026, the rate for sellers in Turkey is 1.67%, calculated on the item price and shipping. The same list shows Canada at 0.50%, France at 1.14%, Italy at 0.80%, Spain at 0.88% and the United Kingdom at 0.48%.
Currency conversion fee: 2.5%
If your shop's listing currency differs from your payment account currency (for example, shop in USD, bank account in TL), Etsy deducts a 2.5% currency conversion fee when converting the sale amount.
Offsite Ads: 15% or 12%
Etsy advertises your listings on channels such as Google, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Bing. If a buyer clicks one of these ads and buys from your shop within 30 days, an ad fee is charged on that order. For shops that have never reached $10,000 in sales over the past 365 days, the rate is 15% and they can opt out. For shops that have passed $10,000, the rate is 12% and participation is mandatory. The ad fee never exceeds $100 per order.
Worked example: a $24.99 t-shirt
Assumptions: item price $24.99, shipping charged to the customer $5.00, order total $29.99. One unit sold, sales tax not included. Cents are rounded, and the math is for a single-item order.

If the same order came through Offsite Ads, roughly another $4.50 is deducted at the 15% rate. This can seriously affect profit in a shop's first year, so factor that possibility into your pricing.
Etsy also adds VAT to some fees in countries where it is required; the payment processing fee and the regulatory operating fee fall into this group. If you see a VAT line on your own statement, add that to your math too.
Adding production cost
Now let's add the product side. If the shirt is printed as a Gildan 64000 by Custombull's partner producer network, the starting cost is $6.50, print included. Because shipping cost varies by address and weight, we keep it separate in the formula:
- With a US bank account: $26.69 - $6.50 - shipping cost = $20.19 - shipping cost
- With a bank account in Turkey: $24.64 - $6.50 - shipping cost - 14 TL = $18.14 - shipping cost - 14 TL
- For an order from Offsite Ads, subtract roughly another $4.50 in both scenarios

Legitimate ways to reduce fees
- Build shipping into the price, or price it realistically: since shipping is part of the fee base, set your shipping charge so it covers your shipping cost after fees.
- Choose your currency deliberately: a mismatch between shop currency and payment account currency triggers a 2.5% conversion fee. Build it into your price.
- Review listings that don't sell: every renewal is $0.20. Fixing the titles and tags of listings that haven't had views in a long time is more effective than constantly opening new ones.
- Make the Offsite Ads decision based on data: below the $10,000 threshold you can opt out. But these ads can also bring new buyers; decide by looking at the data in your Offsite Ads dashboard.
- Lower your product cost: a lower print cost at the same quality goes straight to profit on every sale.
Other items that get overlooked
Beyond the core fees, extra costs arise depending on which Etsy services you use. Etsy's own fee summary lists them separately:
- Etsy Ads: if you advertise in Etsy search, you are charged against the budget you set. This is a separate service from Offsite Ads.
- Shipping labels: if you buy labels through Etsy, the label cost is charged to your payment account. With POD, shipping is usually handled by the producer, so this often doesn't apply to you.
- Multi-quantity sales: when two shirts in different colors sell from the same listing, a $0.20 listing fee is charged for the second unit on top of the first $0.20.
- Custom order listings: a private listing you create for a specific buyer is also subject to the standard $0.20 listing fee.
You can see all of these line by line on Etsy under Shop Manager > Finances > Payment account. Downloading that screen at the end of the month and dividing by your number of sales is the most reliable way to see your true Etsy cost per order.
A simple pricing formula
Set your target profit and work backward: Sale price = (Product cost + Shipping cost + Target profit + Fixed fees) ÷ (1 - Percentage fees). For an account in Turkey, the percentage fees are roughly 6.5% transaction + 6.5% payment processing + 1.67% regulatory + 2.5% currency conversion; you should consider the possibility of Offsite Ads separately. The fixed fees are the $0.20 listing fee and the 14 TL payment processing fixed fee.

There is no single rate. For a US bank account, the core fees are 6.5% transaction + 3% payment processing + $0.25 + the $0.20 listing fee. Do I get fees back when I issue a refund?
According to Etsy's help page, when you refund a sale made through Etsy Payments, the payment processing fee is credited back to your account in proportion to the refund amount.
Can I opt out of Offsite Ads?
If your shop has never reached $10,000 in sales in any consecutive 365-day period, you can opt out under Shop Manager > Settings > Offsite Ads. Once a shop passes the threshold, participation is permanently mandatory.
Should I show prices in TL or USD?
If you sell to buyers in the US, most sellers choose USD as the shop currency. In that case, if your payment account is in TL, a 2.5% currency conversion fee applies to every sale. Whichever currency you choose, build this fee into your price from the start.
Does it cost money to open a shop?
